Week of torrential rains trigger severe floods and landslides in Southern China

Over 22 people have died and 197,000 people evacuated after a week of continuous heavy downpour in Southern China. The Heavy Rains triggered severe floods, landslides, mud flows across southern China and according to the Ministry of Civil Affairs, more than 2,400 homes & 20,900 hectares of crops have been destroyed. Direct economic losses from the floods hit 2.68 billion yuan (about 407.9 million U.S. dollars)


Four million people have also been battling the floods across ten provinces. The rains have sparked swollen rivers, landslides and people are trapped in their homes. Rescue teams have been evacuating citizens on kayaks on the severely flooded streets and images shared online show the destruction the torrential rains have caused.
