Genevieve: “Half Of A Yellow Sun” Is One Of The Biggest Movies I've Done

Finally the most talked about and anticipated movie, HALF OF A YELLOW SUN (HOAYS) is out in cinemas this week on Friday 25th April and it would be shown across all cinemas in Nigeria. Superstar actress, Genevieve Nnaji has described the movie which is an adaptation of Chimamanda Adiche’s bestselling and award-winning novel with the same title “Half Of A Yellow Sun”  as the biggest film she has done.
In a statement signed by Bigsam Media, Half Of A Yellow Sun would show in all the cinemas in Nigeria. It will show at Silverbird cinemas (Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Uyo, Enugu), Genesis (Lagos, Port Harcourt), Ozone Cinema, Kada(Benin) and Filmhouse Cinemas (Surulere, Lagos, Ibadan, Calabar).

The movie which is the first in Nigeria to undergo proper film financing was produced with over 10 Million Dollars. It is expected to have a turnover of a Million Dollars in Nigerian cinemas. The movie is a British-Nigerian collaboration which was directed by UK-based Nigerian playwright, Biyi Bandele and was produced by Yewande Sadiku, an investment banker and  winner of three BAFTAs and an OSCAR, Andrea Calderwood  (HBO’s Generation Kill, The Last King of Scotland).

HOAYS is the first Nigerian movie to premiere at Toronto Film Festival in Canada and another first to have assemblage of Nollywood and Hollywood stars in large numbers; it stars BAFTA award winner and OSCAR nominee, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Genevieve Nnaji, veteran singer Onyeka Onwenu, Wale Ojo, OC Ukeje, Tina Mba, Zack Orji, Gloria Young, Thandie Newton, Anika Rose Noni, John Boyega and Joseph Mawle.
Speaking in an interactive session with journalists, Genevieve Nnaji says “ Half of a Yellow Sun is one of the biggest films I have done so far, but definitely not the most challenging role I have played in movies. I have done a lot more challenging roles in Nollywood.”

Wale Ojo also said "I think they should look forward to seeing excellent actors bringing life to a great book."
Kene Mkparu ,CEO of Filmone and distributor of HOAYS added that “ They should expect a touching love story set in the time of war.”
For the first time, a Nigerian movie is getting international release. It will be released in the US, New Zealand, Portugal, Middle East and has already been released in the UK, which is cutting across the world.
