GOMBE STATE DISTRIBUTE DRUGS TO CURB RIVER BLINDNESS

Gombe State Government says it is distributing N4.2 million drugs to the public to curb Onchocerciasis, commonly known as river blindness, in all the 11 local government areas of the state.

The Coordinator, River Blindness Disease Control Programme in the state, Mrs Talatu Danzaria, announced this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, in Gombe, yesterday.
She said the drugs were supplied by the Federal Ministry of Health for distribution to the beneficiaries. “You cannot get the drugs in any pharmacy or chemist, so you should seize the opportunity to benefit from it,” she said.                                                                                                                                                  According to her, the drugs were being distributed across the 11 local government areas of the state through some community leaders.
The coordinator therefore called on the public to avail themselves of the opportunity in the ongoing distribution of Mectizan tablets to protect them against river blindness, which is caused by the black fly.
